Washington, D.C. — A California man has been unsealed on serious charges related to the Jan. 6, 2021, breach of the U.S. Capitol building. Patrick Allen Bournes, 59, from Santa Clara, was nabbed in San Jose, CA, on January 29th and is now facing a felony obstruction charge amidst other misdemeanors.
Bournes is alleged to have engaged in physical confrontation with law enforcement during the riot, near the infamous ‘tunnel’ entrance to the Capitol. His actions are said to have included pushing against police officers, aiding others in removing riot shields from police possession, and contributing to a crowd effort that rocked back and forth against police lines, using shields as leverage.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia and the Department of Justice National Security Division’s Counterterrorism Section are leading this prosecution, with invaluable support coming from the Northern District of California’s U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Investigation was conducted by both the FBI’s Washington and San Francisco Field Offices, with the U.S. Capitol Police and the Metropolitan Police Department also providing assistance.
Since the breach, over 950 individuals have been arrested across nearly all states for related offenses, including over 284 charged with assaulting or impeding law enforcement. The investigation into the Jan. 6 riot continues to unfold.
