Cahokia Man Sentenced for Drug Trafficking, Firearms Offenses

Ayiko L. Paulette, a 40-year-old man from Cahokia, Illinois, has been sentenced to 300 months in federal prison for his role in a large-scale drug trafficking operation in the East St. Louis area.

Paulette, who was a leader of the Waverly Crips street gang, was found guilty of conspiracy to distribute controlled substances, maintaining a drug-involved premises, being a felon in possession of firearms, distribution of cocaine, interstate travel in support of racketeering, and conspiracy to obstruct justice.

According to court documents, Paulette was involved in importing and selling cocaine, methamphetamine, and heroin in the East St. Louis area from 2007 until his arrest in 2014. The investigation revealed that Paulette maintained a drug house in East St. Louis, where a shootout occurred in March 2013 between rival gang members.

Police recovered several firearms from the house, including multiple assault rifles, following the shootout. The investigation also showed that Paulette attempted to obstruct justice from his jail cell by directing others to attempt to intimidate a potential witness in the case.

The case was investigated under the auspices of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF), which brought together federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to target and dismantle large national and international drug trafficking organizations.

Paulette was ordered to pay an $8,000 fine and an $800 special assessment, in addition to his 300-month prison sentence and 10 years of supervised release. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Donald S. Boyce.
