GREENVILLE, S.C. — The grimy streets of Greenville were once again the scene of a severe justice served as Dana Diane Shay, 37, from Fountain Valley, California, was sentenced to 17 years in federal prison for conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.
This ruthless drug trafficker had been on the lam since cutting off her ankle monitor and becoming a fugitive in August 2021. However, justice caught up with Shay as she was finally apprehended out of state in August 2024 and returned to face her federal charges.
The court increased Shay’s sentence due to her flight from justice, handing down a harsh penalty that includes 204 months imprisonment followed by a five-year term of court-ordered supervision. The court also imposed a crushing financial judgment against Shay totaling $300,000.
According to evidence presented in court, Shay was deeply entrenched in a drug trafficking conspiracy that reached into South Carolina. In 2020, she delivered massive quantities of methamphetamine—29 pounds on November 25, and an additional 50 pounds along with 45 pounds of marijuana just two weeks later on December 7.
The case against Dana Diane Shay was part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) investigation. This program identifies, disrupts, and dismantles high-level drug traffickers, money launderers, gangs, and transnational criminal organizations that threaten the United States.
Several law enforcement agencies collaborated to bring this case to a close, including Homeland Security Investigations Border Enforcement Security Task Force, ATF, U.S. Postal Inspection Service, various sheriff’s offices, and the Greenville County Multi-Jurisdictional Drug Enforcement Unit. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jamie Schoen led the prosecution.
