Alejandro Gomez, Production of Child Pornography, California 2024

TULSA, Okla. – Alejandro Gomez, 32, of Santa Ana, California, will spend the next 15 years of his life behind bars after being sentenced today for Production of Child Pornography. U.S. District Judge John F. Heil, III, handed down the 180-month imprisonment, followed by a lifetime of supervised release. Gomez will also be required to register as a sex offender upon his release, marking him for life as a danger to children.

U.S. Attorney Clint Johnson didn’t mince words, stating, “Despite living more than a thousand miles away from the victims, the internet allowed Gomez to entice minor boys into sending him nude photos and videos.” Johnson emphasized the insidious nature of the crime, adding, “While we use the internet daily, child predators abuse the internet to gain access to children.” This case serves as a stark reminder that geographical distance is no barrier for those who prey on the vulnerable.

The FBI’s investigation, initiated in June 2024 following a tip from a 15-year-old victim and their parent, revealed a calculated and disturbing pattern of grooming. Gomez, operating under false pretenses – presenting himself online as an adult woman interested in minor boys using two separate social media accounts – first targeted a 16-year-old, initiating a sexual dialogue and sharing explicit images. He then escalated his efforts, persuading the 16-year-old to create a chatroom and invite other potential victims. For months, Gomez systematically enticed these minors into producing and sharing sexually explicit material.

“I commend the work of the FBI and our partners at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in securing justice for the victims in this case, and for ensuring this vile predator faces accountability,” said FBI Oklahoma City Special Agent in Charge Doug Goodwater. “Together, we will continue to aggressively pursue those who exploit children for their own sick gratification.” The investigation underscores the vital role of parental vigilance and the importance of reporting any suspected online exploitation immediately.

Authorities remind the public that the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) operates a CyberTipline, the nation’s centralized reporting system for suspected child sexual exploitation. Online enticement can take many forms – from soliciting explicit images to arranging in-person meetings or even trading a child’s sexual images with others. Predators often use social media, gaming platforms, and other online spaces to identify and approach potential victims, exploiting publicly available information and attempting to move communication to private applications.

Recent legislation, including the TAKEITDOWN Act signed into law by President Donald J. Trump, is aimed at combating this online exploitation by requiring platforms to swiftly remove illicit content. Victims can request removal of exploitative images through NCMEC. Gomez will remain in federal custody pending transfer to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons. This case was prosecuted as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative dedicated to combating child sexual exploitation and abuse. More information about Project Safe Childhood is available at Justice.gov/PSC. Assistant U.S. Attorney George Jiang prosecuted the case.
