Carfentanil Dealer Charged in Fatal Overdose

A Beaver County man has been indicted on federal charges related to the possession, distribution, and sale of carfentanil, a highly potent and deadly opioid. Reginald Davis, 29, of New Brighton, is accused of dealing the substance that led to the death of one person and the serious bodily injury of another.

According to the indictment, on December 17, 2016, Davis possessed carfentanil with the intent to distribute it, and distributed the substance, causing the fatal overdose. The indictment also charges Davis with possessing additional quantities of carfentanil with the intent to distribute.

The charges against Davis carry a maximum sentence of up to life in prison, a fine of not more than $1,000,000, or both. The actual sentence, however, would depend on the seriousness of the offense and any prior criminal history the defendant may have.

Davis is presumed innocent until proven guilty, and an indictment is only an accusation. Assistant United States Attorneys Tonya S. Goodman and Timothy M. Lanni are prosecuting the case on behalf of the government.

The investigation into Davis’ activities was led by the Drug Enforcement Agency and the New Brighton Area Police Department.

The case highlights the dangers of the opioid epidemic and the need for stricter laws and enforcement to combat the crisis. Carfentanil is a highly potent opioid that can be deadly in small quantities, and its sale and distribution are strictly prohibited.

Davis’ indictment serves as a reminder that those responsible for dealing deadly substances will be held accountable for their actions.
