Child Predator Sentenced to 23 Years in Federal Prison
Spokane, WA – In a disturbing case of child exploitation, Carlos Manuel Marquez-Pierce, a 23-year-old man from Plummer, Idaho, has been sentenced to 23 years in federal prison for production of child pornography and sexual abuse of a minor.
According to court documents, Marquez-Pierce committed sexual offenses against three minor victims, ages 11 and 12, over nearly two years. He recorded sexually explicit conduct with one of his victims and distributed some of the produced images to others. One of Marquez-Pierce’s victims was an enrolled member of the Coeur d’ Alene Indian Tribe.
Marquez-Pierce pleaded guilty to production of child pornography on January 25, 2021, and to sexual abuse of a minor on February 25, 2021. United States District Judge Wm. Fremming Nielsen handed down the sentence, which will be followed by a life term of court supervision after Marquez-Pierce is released from federal prison.
The case was investigated by the Spokane and Coeur d’Alene Resident Offices of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Coeur d’Alene and Spokane Tribal Police Departments, and the Spokane Police Department, with assistance from the Coeur d’Alene Tribe’s Social Services. Assistant United States Attorney Ann Wick prosecuted the case in cooperation with the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Idaho and the Spokane County Prosecutor’s Office.
“With the sentence imposed today, a dangerous child predator has been removed from the community,” said Acting United States Attorney Joseph H. Harrington. “The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Washington is committed to prosecuting anyone who may sexually exploit our most vulnerable population, children. I commend the hard work of our federal, state, local and Tribal law enforcement partners who investigated this case.”
This case was pursued as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. The initiative marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.
