Casino Cashier Stole $174,472.56
Oklahoma City, OK – In a shocking case of casino embezzlement, a former Indian casino cashier was found guilty of stealing $174,472.56 from the Silver Buffalo Casino in Anadarko, Oklahoma. Kimberly Dawn Logsdon, 41, of Chickasha, Oklahoma, was convicted along with her husband, William Michael Logsdon, 42, of failing to file federal tax returns.
According to investigators, Logsdon double-counted winning cashout vouchers presented by casino customers for payment between January and November 2008. She would treat certain vouchers as both scanned by the computer system and as unscanned vouchers that were not entered into the casino’s computer system.
The evidence presented in court showed that Logsdon and her husband had at least $144,800.00 in gross gambling winnings between May and December 2008, but failed to file federal income tax returns for 2008.
A jury deliberated for approximately four hours before finding Logsdon guilty of embezzlement and both defendants guilty of failing to file federal tax returns. However, they were unable to reach a unanimous verdict on charges that William Logsdon failed to report his wife’s embezzlement to law enforcement and that he committed perjury before a federal grand jury.
As a result of her conviction, Logsdon faces up to 20 years in prison and a $1,000,000 fine, plus mandatory restitution. Her husband could be sentenced to one year in prison and a fine of $100,000 for failing to file federal tax returns.
The case was the result of an investigation by the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigations. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Scott E. Williams and Travis D. Smith.
Kimberly Logsdon’s actions not only put her own financial future at risk, but also compromised the trust between the casino and its customers. Her conviction serves as a reminder that embezzlement will not be tolerated in any form.
