Cedar Hill Man Gets 5.5 Years for Child Pornography

A 32-year-old Cedar Hill man, Michael Stratton, has been sentenced to 72 months, or 5.5 years, in federal prison for receiving child pornography, according to authorities.

The announcement was made by John Parker, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas, who explained that Stratton had pleaded guilty in June 2014 to one count of receipt of child pornography.

U.S. District Judge Ed Kinkeade handed down the sentence, ordering Stratton to surrender to the Bureau of Prisons on April 22, 2015.

The investigation began in October 2013, while a detective with the Sherman, Texas, Police Department was looking into individuals using a specific file-sharing program to receive and distribute child pornography. This ultimately led to a search warrant being executed at Stratton's home, where authorities seized a laptop computer, camera, hard drives, and a thumb drive.

An analysis revealed more than 180 videos and 20 images of child pornography on Stratton's computer, hard drives, and thumb drive. This collection included nine videos of sado-masochistic conduct and at least one depicting infants or toddlers.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
