Chad C. Newcome Sentenced for Carjacking and Firearms Charges in West Virginia

ELKINS, WEST VIRGINIA – In a brazen act of violence, Chad C. Newcome, of Rock Cave, West Virginia, has been sentenced to 125 months of incarceration for carjacking and firearms charges.

Newcome, 41, pleaded guilty in October 2021 to one count of carjacking and one count of use of a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence. The defendant admitted to attempting to steal a 2018 Dodge Ram Truck on March 10, 2021, in Upshur County.

During the carjacking, Newcome used a 12-gauge shotgun. The reckless use of a firearm has put innocent lives at risk, and we are relieved that justice has been served.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher L. Bauer prosecuted the case on behalf of the government. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, the West Virginia State Police, and the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office investigated the crime.

Chief U.S. District Judge Thomas S. Kleeh presided over the case, ensuring that Newcome faced the consequences of his actions.

Newcome’s sentence serves as a reminder that carjacking and the use of firearms in the commission of a crime will not be tolerated in our communities. We must continue to work together to prevent such violent crimes and bring perpetrators to justice.

In conclusion, Chad C. Newcome has been held accountable for his crimes, and we hope that this serves as a warning to others who would seek to engage in similar behavior.
