Chantelle Davis, Theft of Government Funds, Louisiana 2024

NEW ORLEANS, LA – In a shocking case of corruption, Army reservist CHANTELLE DAVIS has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit theft of government funds, having stolen $8,399.65 from the United States Department of the Army.

According to the investigation, DAVIS claimed reimbursement for military funeral honors ceremonies that never took place. The National Defense Authorization Act of 2000 authorizes military funeral honors for active-duty soldiers, retirees, and veterans, which includes the folding and presenting of the United States flag and the playing of "Taps."

By pleading guilty to conspiracy to commit theft of government funds, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 371, DAVIS faces a maximum penalty of five (5) years imprisonment, followed by up to three (3) years of supervised release, a fine of up to $250,000.00, and a mandatory $100 special assessment fee.

DAVIS has repaid the Department of the Army for the $8,399.65 in stolen funds. This case highlights the importance of accountability and transparency in government-funded programs.

The investigation was led by the United States Army Criminal Investigation Command, with Special Agents Dustin Stevens, John Hiniker, Jeffrey Riedeman, and Denny Richter playing key roles. Assistant United States Attorney Andre J. Lagarde of the Public Integrity Unit is in charge of the prosecution.

U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans praised the work of the investigative team, stating that their efforts have brought justice to the victims and ensured that those responsible for this heinous crime are held accountable.
