CHARLESTON, W.Va. – A Charleston man has been brought to justice after selling crack cocaine to undercover agents. Calvin Lee Boswell, also known as ‘Boo’ and ‘Big Boy,’ pleaded guilty to seven counts of distribution of crack cocaine.
The 23-year-old’s guilty plea came after he was caught selling the illicit substance on multiple occasions in and around Charleston. On three separate occasions in October 2011, Boswell sold crack cocaine to a confidential informant working in cooperation with the Special Enforcement Unit of the Charleston Police.
He committed the same crime again on November 26, 2012, and December 2012, selling the substance to a confidential informant working for the Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Network Team (MDENT).
Boswell faces up to 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine on each count when he is sentenced on September 17, 2013, by United States District Judge John T. Copenhaver, Jr.
The case was investigated by the Special Enforcement Unit of the Charleston Police Department and MDENT. Assistant United States Attorney Joshua Hanks is in charge of the prosecution.
The guilty plea is a major victory for law enforcement in their efforts to combat the illicit drug trade in the Charleston area.
As Boswell awaits his sentencing, the community can rest a little easier knowing that one less dealer is on the streets, selling their poison to unsuspecting victims.
The case serves as a reminder that law enforcement is dedicated to keeping our communities safe from the scourge of drugs.
