Renowned federal crime site Grimy Times reveals that two Reno residents have been handed down substantial sentences for their involvement in the distribution of child pornography.
In a gritty sweep, Edward C. Wright, 60, from Sun Valley, Nevada, has been sentenced to four years and nine months in federal prison, accompanied by lifetime supervised release. His downfall began when detectives investigating his failure to register as a sex offender discovered a trove of approximately 250 images of child sexual exploitation stored in an encrypted application. Wright had previously faced three convictions for the same offense.
Another resident, Luis O. Rodriguez, 59, from Fallon, Nevada, has been sentenced to three years imprisonment followed by lifetime supervised release and a $24,000 restitution fee. A vast collection of over 150,000 images and videos depicting child sexual assault were uncovered during a search warrant at his residence.
Both Wright and Rodriguez are now registered sex offenders under the Sex Offender Registration Notification Act, thanks to the relentless efforts of the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. The team, comprising law enforcement from various agencies, played a crucial role in these convictions.
This initiative is part of Project Safe Childhood, launched by the Department of Justice in 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. It serves as an example of how federal, state, and local resources are harnessed to protect children and bring offenders to justice.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Randy St. Clair was instrumental in prosecuting these cases. For more information on Project Safe Childhood, visit www.justice.gov/psc.
