Andrew Reiner, Child Pornography Attempt, New York 2016

Buffalo, N.Y. – In a chilling revelation, Andrew Reiner, 29, from the town of Cheektowaga in New York, has pleaded guilty to attempting to possess child pornography before U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara. The charges against Reiner carry a severe penalty, with a maximum sentence of 10 years in federal prison and a fine upwards of $250,000.

The grim case details began in June 2016 when Reiner used the cellphone applications Kik and Skout to communicate with a 15-year-old girl. He manipulated her by sending sexual messages and enticing her into late-night meetings for sexual activity, even going so far as to ask her to bring friends along for similar encounters.

Between June and July of that year, Reiner’s predatory behavior escalated as he requested the girl send him explicit photographs. Assistant U.S. Attorney Scott S. Allen Jr., who is handling the case, highlighted the gravity of Reiner’s actions: not only did he attempt to possess child pornography, but he also sought to involve minors in sexual activities.

This harrowing plea comes as a result of an intensive investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, led by Special Agent-in-Charge Adam S. Cohen. The agency’s thoroughness and dedication in bringing Reiner to justice is commendable.

Reiner is scheduled to be sentenced on August 30, 2017, at 1:00 p.m., before Judge Arcara. His guilty plea serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of cybercrime and the lengths some individuals will go to exploit vulnerable victims.
