NORFOLK, Va. – Travis Morris, a 39-year-old Chesapeake man, has been sentenced to six years in federal prison for his role in a heroin and fentanyl trafficking operation.
Morris, also known as ‘Black,’ was arrested in June 2023 after a traffic stop by the Chesapeake Police Department. Officers found 120 white capsules containing a heroin/fentanyl mixture, digital scales, a .22 caliber pistol, two cellular telephones, and $3,993.88 in cash in the vehicle Morris was a passenger in.
According to court documents, Morris distributed fentanyl and heroin in Chesapeake from November 2022 through June 2023. He sold a mixture of heroin and fentanyl to a confidential informant on multiple occasions between December 12, 2022, and June 20, 2023.
Morris plead guilty on February 1 to possession with intent to distribute heroin and possessing a firearm in furtherance of and during and in relation to a drug trafficking crime. The total converted weight of the controlled substances recovered by law enforcement during the investigation is 26 kilograms.
U.S. Attorney Jessica D. Aber announced the sentencing, alongside Craig Kailimai, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Washington Field Division, Mark G. Solesky, Chief of Chesapeake Police, and Jason Miyares, Attorney General of Virginia.
The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence by bringing together law enforcement and the community. Morris’ sentence is a testament to the efforts of law enforcement to hold accountable those who threaten the safety of our neighborhoods.
Sentencing was carried out by Senior U.S. District Judge Raymond A. Jackson. Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Alyssa Miller, an Assistant Attorney General with the Virginia Attorney General’s Office, prosecuted the case.
