Chhay Lim, Possession of Firearms by an Alien Present Illegally, Louisiana 2023

A Cambodian national has been brought to justice for violating the federal gun control act in Louisiana.

CHHAY LIM, 47, a citizen of Cambodia, was sentenced to serve ten months imprisonment, to be followed by one year of supervised release. He is subject to deportation following his release from prison.

The crime occurred on or about March 2, 2015, when LIM, an alien present illegally in the United States, was found in possession of a TriStar 9mm semi-automatic pistol and a Marlin Model 6082, .22 caliber rifle.

U.S. District Judge Kurt D. Engelhardt made the ruling after LIM previously pleaded guilty to possession of firearms by an alien present illegally and unlawfully in the United States.

Acting U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans praised the work of the Homeland Security Investigations of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in investigating this matter. Assistant United States Attorneys Spiro G. Latsis and Sean Toomey were in charge of the prosecution.

The case highlights the importance of upholding federal gun laws and holding individuals accountable for their actions.

LIM’s sentence sends a strong message that those who break the law will face consequences, including deportation.
