GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: A brazen drug smuggling operation has been foiled as a Chicago man was indicted for transporting 3.5 kilograms of methamphetamine through Kansas City on a train bound for Chicago.
Josue Sabillon, 40, from Chicago, Ill., is staring down federal charges after being caught with the dangerous substance while en route to his hometown. Sabillon has been charged with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, replacing an earlier federal criminal complaint filed just last month on Sept. 8, 2025.
The drug bust took place on Sept. 5, 2025, when Sabillon was aboard a train heading towards Chicago. It was during this journey that a canine trained to detect illegal narcotics sniffed out the duffle bag Sabillon was carrying. Upon searching the bag, authorities uncovered 3.567 kilograms of methamphetamine along with identification papers linking Sabillon to the stash.
This case is part of Operation Take Back America, an initiative aimed at combating drug cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs) that continue to threaten our communities. Assistant U.S. Attorney Heather Siegele is leading the prosecution against Sabillon, who has yet to prove his innocence as the charges stand as accusations without evidence of guilt.
The investigation into Sabillon’s alleged crime was conducted by a multi-agency team including the Drug Enforcement Administration, Kansas City Missouri Police Department, and the Missouri Western Interdiction and Narcotics Task Force. As the trial approaches, the fate of this accused smuggler hinges on the outcome of the federal jury’s decision.
For now, Sabillon remains in custody as he awaits his day in court, while law enforcement agencies continue to crack down on drug trafficking operations that put lives at risk and communities in peril.
