Kristopher D. Osborne, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, West Virginia 2025

Huntington, W.Va. – In a gritty courtroom drama, Kristopher D. Osborne, 47, of Huntington, pleaded guilty today to the serious charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The grim tale unfolded on February 27, 2025, when an officer came across Osborne riding a bicycle along Third Street in Huntington. The scene quickly turned from routine to high-stakes as Osborne tried to flee and wrecked his bike in the process.

After the crash, Osborne confessed to being a felon and revealed that he was carrying a firearm. Officers promptly seized a loaded Hi-Point model C9 9mm pistol from his waistband. Federal law strictly prohibits individuals with prior felony convictions like Osborne’s from possessing firearms or ammunition.

Osborne’s history of criminality includes grand larceny, attempted possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine, breaking and entering, and conspiracy to commit a felony in Raleigh County Circuit Court on August 30, 2022. He is now scheduled to face the music on January 20, 2026, where he could be sentenced to up to 15 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and hit with a fine reaching $250,000.

Acting United States Attorney Lisa G. Johnston led the announcement, commending the Huntington Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for their relentless pursuit of justice.

The hearing was presided over by United States District Judge Robert C. Chambers, with Assistant United States Attorney Lesley C. Shamblin prosecuting the case. This incident is part of Operation Take Back America, a national campaign aimed at stamping out illegal immigration, dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and safeguarding communities from violent crime.
