Christopher M. Mayer, a 32-year-old man from Navarre, Florida, has been indicted on federal charges for child exploitation crimes, including conspiracy to distribute, receive, and possess visual depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. The alleged crimes took place in Santa Rosa County, where Mayer resides. The indictment was announced by John P. Heekin, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida. Mayer’s arraignment was held in federal court in Pensacola, Florida, with a jury trial scheduled for August 17, 2026.
The investigation was conducted jointly by Homeland Security Investigations and the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office. If convicted, Mayer faces a minimum of 5 years’ imprisonment and up to 20 years’ imprisonment on each count, as well as registration as a sexual offender and forfeiture of electronic devices used to commit the crimes.
The case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice in 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project aims to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet and identify and rescue victims.
Mayer’s indictment is a result of the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to protect children from exploitation and abuse. The case will be prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys David L. Goldberg and Thomas S.P. Geeker.
