A 21-year-old man, Roberto Gadiel León-López, was arrested in Minnesota on May 12, 2026, for allegedly transporting a 13-year-old girl from her home to another location in Puerto Rico with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity in August 2024. The arrest was made following a traffic stop, and León-López is now facing federal charges. The investigation was initiated by law enforcement authorities after the incident, and a federal Grand Jury returned a one-count indictment on April 15, 2026.
León-López had his initial appearance on May 13 and is scheduled to have a detention and identity hearing on May 18, 2026, in Minnesota. He is expected to be transferred to the District of Puerto Rico after the scheduled hearings for further criminal proceedings. The case is being prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Puerto Rico, with the assistance of the FBI’s San Juan Field Office.
According to W. Stephen Muldrow, United States Attorney for the District of Puerto Rico, the dedicated team of prosecutors, victim witness coordinators, and support personnel will continue to work with law enforcement partners to combat child exploitation and bring offenders to justice. The FBI’s Special Agent in Charge, Carlos R. Goris, emphasized that protecting children from exploitation and abuse remains one of the FBI’s highest priorities.
If convicted, León-López faces severe penalties for his alleged crimes. The arrest and prosecution of León-López reflect the relentless efforts of law enforcement agencies to identify and bring to justice those who exploit and harm vulnerable children.
