Ronald Waltrip, a 62-year-old from Haysville, Kansas, orchestrated a heinous plot to create and distribute child pornography. Using social media, Waltrip contacted an Australian man and directed him to engage in sexual acts with a six-year-old child in his custody. The Australian man complied, creating and sending the disturbing images to Waltrip. This egregious crime was committed across international borders, highlighting the dark reach of child exploitation. Waltrip’s motives were purely selfish and sadistic, driven by his own twisted desires.
Waltrip’s crimes were uncovered by a joint investigation involving Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the Kansas Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, and the Wichita Police Department. The probe revealed the extent of Waltrip’s communication with the Australian man, exposing the explicit requests he made and the horrific images that were created and shared as a result.
Waltrip pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit sexual exploitation of a child – production of child pornography. He was subsequently sentenced to 210 months in prison, followed by a lifetime of supervised release. This sentence reflects the severity of Waltrip’s crimes and the need to protect society from his harmful actions.
The case was brought under Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice in 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. This project marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the internet, and to identify and rescue victims.
