SAN ANTONIO – A grim chapter in Texas’s criminal history closed as Samson Luna, 36, was sentenced to 25 years in federal prison for a decade of child sexual abuse. Luna’s relentless exploitation and the harrowing details of his crimes have shocked the nation.
According to court documents, Luna began his predatory behavior in 2013, targeting a minor female until January 2024. The predator used multiple phones to record and produce photographs of his despicable acts. He coerced the victim into sending him nude videos and images through her cellphone, paying her with money from his Cash App account.
Law enforcement’s search of Luna’s Google account uncovered a chilling cache: 87 videos and 45 images depicting the child at various ages over ten years, subjected to sexual abuse. The horror of these discoveries was brought to light when Luna was arrested on March 24, 2024.
Luna faced federal charges including sexual exploitation of a child and possession of child pornography. He pleaded guilty to the sexual exploitation charge on March 25, 2025. In addition to his lengthy prison sentence and 15 years of supervised release, Senior U.S. District Judge David Ezra ordered Luna to pay $100,000 in restitution to his victim.
U.S. Attorney Justin R. Simmons for the Western District of Texas announced the sentence, emphasizing the collaborative efforts of Homeland Security Investigations and the Abilene Police Department that led to Luna’s capture.
This case was part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice in 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children online and identify victims.
