A 29-year-old Chinese graduate student, Jiaxin Tian, has pleaded guilty to receiving child sex abuse material in New Orleans. The case began with an undercover online investigation by the Pearl River County Sheriff’s Office, which led to Tian’s residence in New Orleans. On December 12, 2025, agents with the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security executed a search warrant at Tian’s home, recovering electronic devices containing images and videos of prepubescent children.
Tian admitted to downloading the illicit material and now faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years and a maximum sentence of twenty years in prison, as well as a $250,000 fine and a term of supervised release. The U.S. Attorney’s Office is prosecuting Tian federally, following his initial arrest on state child pornography charges.
The investigation was a partnership between state and federal authorities, including the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Tian will remain in federal custody until his sentencing on November 19, 2026, before United States District Judge Anna St. John.
The guilty plea is a result of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat child sex abuse and exploitation. The case highlights the importance of cooperation between state and federal agencies in bringing perpetrators to justice.
