Defendant Charged in Bizarre Flight Incident

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Chloe M. Dasilva, a 32-year-old passenger, has been charged with a federal crime after an Alaska Airlines flight was diverted to Kansas City International Airport on Friday, April 7.

The charges stem from allegations that Dasilva interfered with the duties of flight attendants while aboard Alaska Airlines flight 456. The flight was originally scheduled to travel nonstop from San Francisco International Airport to Chicago O’Hare International Airport. However, it was diverted to Kansas City International Airport at approximately 4:20 a.m. due to concerns for passenger safety.

According to an affidavit filed in support of the federal complaint, Dasilva was involved in a confrontation with a male flight attendant, during which she cussed, yelled, and threatened to kill him. To maintain order, a flight attendant used zip ties to restrain Dasilva, while two passengers assisted in the process.

One of the passengers, in an act of kindness, switched seats with a mother and her infant who were seated directly in front of Dasilva, ensuring their safety. The pilot ultimately decided to divert the flight to Kansas City instead of continuing on to Chicago, prioritizing the well-being of the passengers.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew Blackwood is prosecuting the case, which was investigated by the FBI. Dasilva is currently in federal custody and will appear in court today. The charge contained in the complaint is merely an accusation, and it is up to the court to determine guilt or innocence.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of airline safety and the need for passengers to respect the authority of flight attendants. Grimy Times will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available.

Chloe M. Dasilva, 32, is charged with one count of interfering with flight crew members and attendants. Her initial court appearance is set for today.
