National Crime Victims’ Rights Week kicks off in Iowa, commemorating the victims and survivors of violent crimes. The week-long initiative promotes victims’ rights and honors those who advocate for them. US Attorney Leif Olson praises the tireless work of organizations comforting victims of crime in Iowa.
Events across the state, including a Sioux City community awareness event and a 5K run in Marion, will share resources and support for survivors. The Iowa Department of Corrections will also hold a commemoration honoring deceased crime victims and those who supported them.
Award winners, including Sarah Harms from the Iowa Attorney General’s Office and law enforcement officers from Humboldt, Iowa and Winneshiek counties, were recognized for their exceptional service to crime victims in Iowa.
The week-long initiative is a reminder of the importance of supporting victims of violent crimes and their families.
