In Iowa’s Southern District, two unsung heroes of victim advocacy are being recognized for their tireless work in supporting those affected by crime. The US Attorney’s office announced the winners of the annual National Crime Victims’ Rights Week awards on April 19th. Brittany Marshall, a Victim Services Coordinator, was honored for her dedication to serving victims in 10 rural counties.
Braeden Nielson, a police officer with the Fairfield Police Department, received the Law Enforcement Victim Service Award for his compassion and commitment to victims.
Speaking at the ceremony, US Attorney David C. Waterman emphasized the importance of recognizing the dignity and voices of victims in the pursuit of justice.
The Southern District of Iowa’s recognition ceremony took place as part of the nationwide observance of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, which aims to raise awareness about the rights and needs of victims.
