A 9-year-old cold case in Iowa finally got its day in court thanks to the tireless efforts of Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office Detective Christopher Wuebker. Jade Colvin, 15, was last seen in Winneshiek County in 2017, but her remains were only recently identified after a multi-agency investigation.
Colvin’s disappearance sparked a massive search effort, but investigators were stumped until Detective Wuebker took the reins. He coordinated a years-long investigation that finally led to a second-degree murder conviction last year.
US Attorney Leif Olson praised Detective Wuebker and other award recipients for their dedication to victims and their families. ‘Victims and their families don’t ask to be made part of our criminal-justice system, but the system can’t succeed without their help,’ Olson said.
Colvin’s case is just one example of the life-changing work being done by law enforcement and victim services in Iowa. These unsung heroes are often the first point of contact for victims, providing crucial support and guidance throughout the investigation and trial process.
