Birmingham Man Sentenced for Gun Crime in Iowa
A 43-year-old man from Birmingham, Alabama, has been sentenced to two years in federal prison after pleading guilty to possessing a firearm as a felon. Chrishawn Lloyd Stuckey received the prison term following a guilty plea on February 7, 2025.
According to evidence presented at the sentencing hearing, Stuckey was intoxicated while at a Wal-Mart in Waterloo, Iowa, on the evening of February 7, 2025. He then left the store and drove erratically, refusing to pull over when a law enforcement officer attempted to stop him. Stuckey instead got onto an on-ramp to the highway, prompting officers to use a car maneuver to force him to stop. However, Stuckey then put his car in reverse and backed up into a squad car, damaging it.
Officers found a loaded stolen firearm in Stuckey’s car during the stop. Stuckey has previous felony convictions for trafficking in stolen weapons and possession of a firearm by a felon, making him ineligible to possess a firearm. He was sentenced in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams to 24 months’ imprisonment and must also serve a 3-year term of supervised release after the prison term.
The case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence by bringing together law enforcement and the communities they serve. The PSN program is based on core principles of fostering trust and legitimacy in communities, supporting community-based organizations, setting focused and strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring results.
Stuckey is currently being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Devra T. Hake and investigated by the Waterloo Police Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Stuckey’s sentence serves as a reminder of the consequences of committing gun crimes and the importance of community-based initiatives in reducing violent crime. As the PSN program continues to work towards making neighborhoods safer, it is clear that those who commit gun crimes will face severe penalties.
The case file number for Chrishawn Lloyd Stuckey is 24-CR-2017. For more information, visit https://ecf.iand.uscourts.gov/cgi-bin/login.pl.
