TULSA, Okla. — In a stunning betrayal of trust, Christine Fletcher, 62, a personal assistant with over three decades of service to her employer, has been sentenced to federal prison for embezzling more than $2.1 million.
U.S. District Judge Sara E. Hill imposed a sentence of 36 months imprisonment followed by three years of supervised release on Fletcher. Additionally, she was ordered to pay $2,188,870 in restitution to the victim and $549,964 to the IRS.
Fletcher, who had been granted access to multiple bank accounts due to her trusted position, admitted to forging the signature of the owner’s deceased spouse on hundreds of checks. She confessed that she had been embezzling funds for nearly a decade, depositing them into her personal accounts and using them to pay off her own credit card bills.
In court documents, Fletcher admitted that her actions were driven by greed alone. It was only after being confronted by the owner and terminated from her employment that she realized the full extent of her financial misdeeds.
Fletcher pleaded guilty to Bank Fraud and Tax Evasion in March 2023 and agreed that the restitution would not be dischargeable in any bankruptcy proceeding. She was permitted to remain on bond and surrendered to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons voluntarily.
This case was investigated by the IRS Criminal Investigations and the U.S. Secret Service, with Assistant U.S. Attorney David D. Whipple and Thomas E. Buscemi handling the prosecution.
