A Jennings man has been sentenced to 23 years and 4 months in prison for producing child pornography, according to officials.
Christopher Morvant, 48, of Jennings, Louisiana, was sentenced today by United States District Judge James D. Cain, Jr. to 280 months (23 years, 4 months) in prison, followed by 5 years of supervised release, for production of child pornography.
According to documents introduced in court, in May and June 2017, Morvant convinced his co-defendant to film a video of the co-defendant performing a sexual act on a toddler-aged child. Morvant’s co-defendant sent this video to him using the internet and Morvant saved the video on his personal computer.
The investigation into Morvant’s crimes was conducted by the Department of Homeland Security – Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys T. Forrest Phillips and J. Luke Walker prosecuted the case against Morvant.
Child pornography is a serious crime that can have devastating consequences for its victims. The production and distribution of child pornography are punishable by law, and those found guilty can face severe penalties, including lengthy prison sentences.
Morvant’s case serves as a reminder of the importance of reporting suspected child exploitation to the authorities. If you or someone you know has information about a child exploitation crime, contact the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s CyberTipline at report.cybertip.org.
