Auburn Man Charged with Child Pornography Offense

Christopher Rondeau, a 35-year-old convicted felon from Auburn, Massachusetts, is facing federal charges for possession of child pornography. The arrest comes just months after Rondeau was released from federal custody in August 2019 following a conviction for receipt of child pornography in 2016.

Rondeau is accused of possessing a cell phone containing images and videos of child pornography that was hidden under a dresser in his bedroom. According to the charging documents, law enforcement executed a search warrant at Rondeau’s residence and uncovered the incriminating evidence.

This is not Romdeau’s first run-in with the law. In 2016, he was convicted of receipt of child pornography and sentenced to 68 months in prison and seven years of supervised release. He was registered as a Level II sex offender in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts at the time of his release.

Rondeau’s prior conviction has significant implications for his current charges. The charging statute provides for a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years and up to 20 years in prison, a minimum of five years and up to life of supervised release, and a fine of up to $250,000.

United States Attorney Andrew E. Lelling, along with other law enforcement officials, announced the charges against Rondeau. Assistant U.S. Attorney Danial Bennett of Lelling’s Worcester Branch Office is prosecuting the case. Rondeau is currently being held pending a detention hearing scheduled for November 13, 2020.

The details contained in the charging document are allegations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
