Dustin Christopher Scott, Attempted Sexual Exploitation, South Dakota 2016

A Wall, South Dakota man has been accused of using the internet to target a minor female, according to a recent indictment.

Dustin Christopher Scott, 33, was indicted on August 23, 2016, by a federal grand jury for Attempted Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, Attempted Enticement of a Minor Using the Internet, and Receipt of Child Pornography.

The charges stem from Scott’s alleged attempts to engage in sexually explicit conduct with undercover agents posing as the father of a minor female using a cell phone and computer.

Prosecutors allege Scott’s actions are punishable by life imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, lifetime supervised release, and a $5,000 assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.

Scott appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Daneta Wollmann on September 19, 2016, and pleaded not guilty to the indictment.

The investigation into Scott’s alleged crimes is being conducted by the Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah Collins is prosecuting the case.

At present, Scott is being held pending trial. A trial date has not been set.

The charges against Scott are merely an accusation, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
