Local Man Sentenced to Prison for Marijuana Trafficking

A 26-year-old New Castle man has been sentenced to 3 years in federal prison for his role in a marijuana trafficking ring.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s office, Christopher Shaner, 26, was sentenced on March 20, 2024, for his conviction of violating federal narcotic laws.

Shaner was accused of conspiring to possess with intent to distribute marijuana that had been imported into California from Mexico and then sent through the mail and interstate carriers to the New Castle area.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Brendan T. Conway and Marnie Sheehan-Balchon prosecuted the case on behalf of the government. U.S. Attorney Cindy K. Chung commended the Drug Enforcement Administration for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Shaner.

This prosecution is a result of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) investigation, which identifies, disrupts, and dismantles high-level drug traffickers, money launderers, gangs, and transnational criminal organizations that threaten communities throughout the United States.

Shaner will serve 36 months in prison and 3 years of supervised release after his release from prison. He is currently in federal custody.
