Christopher Sharp, 31, Sentenced to 5+ Years for Sexual Abuse in Washington DC
A Washington DC man will spend over five years behind bars for multiple counts of sexual abuse after a string of attacks on unsuspecting strangers in late August 2023.
Christopher Sharp, 31, was sentenced to 48 months of incarceration and 90 days of incarceration for each of the five misdemeanor sexual abuse convictions, to run consecutive to each other, by Superior Court Judge Robert Okun. The total prison time comes out to approximately 5 years and 6 months.
The sexual abuse charges stemmed from a series of incidents on August 13, 2023, in which Sharp approached multiple women in Northwest Washington and touched them inappropriately. The attacks continued on August 15, 2023, outside the George Washington University Hospital, where Sharp was seen smacking a woman’s buttock and subsequently grabbing another woman’s buttock just 5 minutes later.
The final incident took place near the intersection of 19th Street and Eye Street, Northwest, where Sharp attempted to sexually assault a woman before being thwarted by bystanders. All six victims were total strangers to Sharp.
Sharp pleaded guilty to the charges on April 19, 2024. As part of his sentence, Sharp will be required to register as a sex offender for 10 years and pay a fee to the Victim’s Compensation Fund.
U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves and Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department’s Sexual Assault Unit commended the work of investigators and prosecutors in bringing Sharp to justice. The case serves as a reminder to be aware of one’s surroundings and to report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
