CINCINNATI – In a stunning turn of events, Jermaine Mathews, 39, has been charged with federal drug crimes following his involvement in the July 26 downtown Cincinnati brawl. The local favorite is now facing serious federal charges as part of a superseding indictment.
According to the latest charges, Mathews and three others are accused of conspiring to distribute and possess with intent to distribute cocaine and fentanyl. Mathews himself is said to have been responsible for 40 grams or more of fentanyl, while also operating a Narcotics trafficking hub on Kenton Street.
Mathews had been on bond after being charged locally with aggravated riot and assault. His latest arrest comes as federal agents and Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office RENU officials moved in today to take him into custody.
The four suspects, including Jerome Mitchell, 41, Terence Huff, 41, and Clarence Williams, 42, all from Cincinnati, are now caught in a web of serious federal charges that could send them away for years if convicted.
United States Attorney Dominick S. Gerace II, FBI Special Agent in Charge Elena Iatarola, Hamilton County Sheriff Charmaine McGuffey, and DEA Acting Special Agent in Charge Andrew Lawton announced the new charges against Mathews and his co-defendants. Assistant United States Attorney Anthony Springer is now representing the federal government in this case.
It’s important to remember that an indictment contains only allegations, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
