Tampa, FL – A federal jury in Clearwater has returned a guilty verdict against William Jack Filing (29), finding him responsible for receiving child sexual abuse material. The case marks another significant victory in the ongoing battle against online predators and the exploitation of children.
Filing faces a severe penalty, with up to 40 years in federal prison and mandatory sex offender registration following his conviction. His sentencing hearing is set for October 9, 2025.
According to trial evidence, Filing engaged in online chats where he discussed his desires to sexually abuse young boys. During these conversations, he received graphic videos depicting the sexual exploitation of an infant. Filing also expressed a disturbing interest in children between the ages of one and four.
The investigation into Filing was spearheaded by Homeland Security Investigations–Tampa, with substantial support from the Clearwater Police Department and the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force of Central Florida. Assistant United States Attorneys Erin Claire Favorit and Abigail King are prosecuting the case.
This conviction comes under Project Safe Childhood, a Justice Department initiative launched in 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The program coordinates federal, state, and local efforts to locate, apprehend, and prosecute those who prey on children online and to rescue victims. For more information, visit www.justice.gov/psc.
