TULSA, OK – A Tulsa man, Coby Dale Green, 24, has confessed to intentionally firebombing a beloved local donut shop last Halloween, a crime fueled by what authorities are calling bias. Green pleaded guilty today in federal court to malicious use of explosive materials, bringing him one step closer to facing significant time behind bars.
According to court documents, Green shattered the front door of The Donut Hole in the early morning hours of October 31, 2022. He then ignited a Molotov Cocktail – a crude incendiary device – and hurled it through the broken glass, directly into the business. Had the fire spread, authorities say, the blaze could have engulfed multiple neighboring establishments.
“The Molotov Cocktail that Green threw into the Donut Hole was fueled by bias and had the power to burn down several businesses,” stated U.S. Attorney Clinton Johnson. While details surrounding the motive remain tightly guarded, the statement suggests the attack wasn’t random. The incident sent shockwaves through the community, known for its tight-knit business owners and loyal customers.
Green now faces a potential sentence of between 5 and 20 years in federal prison, alongside a hefty fine of up to $250,000. The final determination will rest with a federal district court judge, who will consider sentencing guidelines and other relevant factors before handing down a punishment. No sentencing date has been announced at this time.
The investigation was spearheaded by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), with crucial assistance from the Tulsa Police and Fire Departments. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Nathan E. Michel and Christopher J. Nassar are handling the prosecution. Green remains in the custody of the U.S. Marshal Service while awaiting his fate.
The Donut Hole, a Tulsa staple, has since reopened, but the scars of the attack remain.
