Local Man Sentenced for Cocaine Distribution and Firearms Possession
In federal court in Wheeling, West Virginia, 28-year-old Dorian Devon Banks was sentenced to six months incarceration for cocaine distribution and illegal firearms possession.
According to court documents, Banks pled guilty to one count of ‘Possession with the Intent to Distribute Cocaine’ and one count of ‘Possession of a Firearm in Furtherance of a Drug Trafficking Crime’ in February 2018.
The charges stem from a May 2017 incident in Ohio County, where Banks admitted to possessing cocaine and a 9mm caliber pistol during a drug crime.
Prosecuting the case was Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen L. Vogrin, who represented the government.
The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Ohio Valley Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative, and the Wheeling Police Department.
Senior U.S. District Judge Frederick P. Stamp, Jr. presided over the case.
Banks’ sentence serves as a reminder of the federal government’s commitment to combating cocaine distribution and firearms crimes in West Virginia.
The case is a result of an ongoing effort to dismantle and disrupt the flow of illicit narcotics and firearms in the region.
