Cocaine Distributor Lands 10 Years in Prison

Baltimore, MD – In a significant blow to Baltimore’s crime scene, 37-year-old Duane Curtis has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for his role in a major cocaine distribution ring. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Richard D. Bennett in federal court yesterday.

Curtis, a resident of Randallstown, Maryland, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute cocaine and conspiracy to launder money. The charges stem from his involvement in a cocaine distribution network that operated from July 2011 through March 2012.

According to court documents, Curtis conspired with Monique Devane and others to distribute cocaine. Devane, a 34-year-old from Yuma, Arizona, would ship cocaine to Curtis in Maryland, which he would then sell on the streets and deposit the proceeds into one of four bank accounts controlled by Devane. Devane used the money to purchase more cocaine in Arizona.

Over the course of the conspiracy, Curtis deposited over $253,350 in drug proceeds. Through his participation in the conspiracy, between five and 15 kilograms of cocaine were foreseeable to Curtis. Devane, who previously pleaded guilty, was sentenced to five years in prison.

United States Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein commended the DEA Washington and Arizona Field Offices for their work in the investigation, and recognized the Baltimore County Police Department for its assistance. Mr. Rosenstein thanked Assistant United States Attorneys Brooke Carey and Peter M. Nothstein, who prosecuted this Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force case.

The sentence sends a strong message to those involved in Baltimore’s crime scene: the city will not tolerate cocaine distribution and money laundering. This case is a testament to the teamwork and dedication of law enforcement agencies in Maryland and Arizona.

As Curtis begins his 10-year sentence, the community can breathe a sigh of relief. The city is one step closer to a safer and more just environment, free from the scourge of cocaine distribution and money laundering.
