Cocaine Trafficker Sentenced to 10+ Years

A Kill Devil Hills man, Herndon Hunt Outlaw Riddle, III, has been sentenced to 126 months in prison and five years of supervised release for trafficking cocaine in North Carolina.

Riddle, 40, was arrested in May 2019 after investigators with the Hialeah Police Department in Florida received information from a confidential informant that he was seeking to purchase bulk quantities of cocaine. The informant and an undercover officer met with Riddle and his co-conspirator Adolphus McLain, Jr., where they agreed to purchase five kilograms of cocaine for $100,000.

Riddle indicated to the informant that he intended to purchase 10 to 15 kilograms of cocaine per month going forward to distribute in the Raleigh and Fayetteville areas. Shortly after the drug transaction, Riddle and McLain were arrested and detectives seized $46,348.00 in U.S. currency from the defendants.

G. Norman Acker, III, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina, made the announcement after the sentencing by U.S. District Judge James C. Dever III. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Internal Revenue Service-Criminal Investigations (IRS-CI), the Dare County Sheriff’s Office, the Kitty Hawk Police Department, the Hialeah Police Department, and the U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) investigated the case.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Ethan Ontjes prosecuted the case. The arrest and conviction are a significant blow to the cocaine trafficking ring operating in the Eastern District of North Carolina.

The case against Riddle and McLain was a result of a joint effort by law enforcement agencies to disrupt and dismantle the cocaine trafficking ring. The investigation and prosecution of Riddle and McLain demonstrate the commitment of the federal government to combating the scourge of cocaine trafficking in North Carolina.

The sentencing of Riddle is a reminder that those who engage in cocaine trafficking will face severe consequences. The federal government will continue to work tirelessly to disrupt and dismantle the networks of cocaine traffickers and bring them to justice.
