A Missouri man has been sentenced to eight years in federal prison for possessing cocaine while incarcerated in the Cole County Jail.
Waun Ramon Ivory, 32, of Jefferson City, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Roseann A. Ketchmark to eight years in federal prison without parole, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
The charges stem from an incident on March 6, 2023, in which Ivory was caught in possession of cocaine while in the Cole County Jail. Ivory was also found to be in possession of a razor, unsheathed from its safety case, and a homemade weapon made from a toothbrush.
Ivory’s lengthy criminal history includes a 2017 conviction for being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was sentenced to five years in prison and released to supervision on June 7, 2022. However, he failed to comply with the conditions of his supervision and was subsequently sentenced to two years in prison.
As Ivory sat in the Cole County Jail pending a supervised release revocation hearing, he continued to accumulate charges. In addition to the cocaine possession, he was also accused of possessing multiple razors, including one unsheathed from its safety case.
This case is a stark reminder of the ongoing struggle to prevent the flow of contraband into correctional facilities. ‘The safety and security of our correctional facilities are paramount,’ said U.S. Attorney Tammy Dickinson. ‘We will continue to work tirelessly to identify and prosecute those who seek to compromise this safety.’
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Lauren E. Kummerer, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshal’s Service and the Cole County Sheriff’s Department.
Ivory’s case is a testament to the importance of vigilant law enforcement and prosecution in preventing the spread of illicit substances in correctional facilities.
According to court documents, Ivory’s crimes demonstrate a reckless disregard for the law and a blatant disregard for the safety of others.
