Connie Williams Charged with Conversion of Government Funds in Pennsylvania

A 59-year-old woman from Saxton, Pennsylvania, has been charged with converting government funds for her own use, according to a federal indictment.

Connie Williams, a resident of Saxton, was indicted by a federal grand jury in Johnstown on a charge of conversion of government funds. The indictment alleges that Williams received and converted approximately $26,118 in Social Security Administration benefit payments that she was not entitled to.

The scheme, which spanned from September 11, 2013, to January 14, 2015, involved 17 separate payments. Williams allegedly used the funds for her own benefit, rather than for the intended purpose of supporting her as a Social Security beneficiary.

Williams faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, as well as a fine of $250,000. The actual sentence imposed would be based on the seriousness of the offense and any prior criminal history.

The investigation into Williams’ activities was led by the Social Security Administration, Office of Inspector General. Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephanie L. Haines is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government.

Williams is presumed innocent until proven guilty. The indictment serves as an accusation, and a defendant is not convicted until a court of law renders a verdict.
