Cory Todd Cox, Receipt and Distribution of Child Sexual Abuse Material, Indiana 2024

INDIANAPOLIS – Cory Todd Cox, 38, of Noblesville, Indiana, will spend the next 15 years in federal prison for trafficking in the most vile of commodities: images and videos of abused children. Cox was sentenced today after pleading guilty to two counts of receipt and distribution of child sexual abuse material, a grim reminder of the predators lurking in the digital shadows.

The case unfolded after investigators discovered Cox sending and receiving graphic depictions of prepubescent minors via text message on November 28, 2023. A subsequent search of his Noblesville residence on December 6, 2023, conducted by Noblesville Police Officers, turned up a digital cesspool. Three cellular devices were seized, revealing a disturbing trove of illicit content. Cox also admitted to maintaining a Dropbox account brimming with approximately 5 videos and 31 images depicting the sexual abuse of children.

This wasn’t a first offense. Far from it. At the time of his arrest, Cox was already on probation and registered as a sex offender. Court records show a pattern of predatory behavior stretching back nearly two decades. He was previously convicted of sexual misconduct with a minor in 2007, sexual battery in 2008, and, most chillingly, child solicitation in 2017 – caught red-handed soliciting sex from a thirteen-year-old via Facebook Messenger. The system failed to protect potential victims before, and Cox exploited that failure.

“Despite his history as a dangerous contact sex offender, the defendant chose to reoffend,” stated Tom Wheeler, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana. “His actions ensure that images and videos depicting the sexual abuse of children will circulate in perpetuity, which unequivocally contributes to the trauma experienced by the abused children depicted in his collection. He has no place in civilized society and will spend the next 15 years in federal prison where he belongs.”

The U.S. Secret Service, leading the investigation alongside the Noblesville Police Department, isn’t letting up on these predators. “The U.S. Secret Service is dedicated to protecting children from sexual predators and will vigorously pursue repeat offenders,” said Special Agent in Charge Ike Barnes, of the U.S. Secret Service’s Indianapolis Field Office. “This defendant’s lengthy criminal history and propensity to reoffend is beyond disturbing.”

U.S. District Judge Tanya Walton Pratt imposed the sentence. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Carolyn Haney and MaryAnn T. Mindrum prosecuted the case, which falls under Project Safe Childhood, a national initiative aimed at combating child sexual exploitation. If you or someone you know is a victim of child sexual exploitation, resources are available. This case serves as a stark warning: those who prey on children will be hunted and held accountable.
