Crack Kingpins Busted in Bangor

Bangor, ME – In a major blow to the city’s underworld, two notorious crack dealers were convicted yesterday of conspiracy to distribute 280 grams of the highly addictive substance.

Jermaine Mitchell, 44, aka ‘Mello,’ and Akeen Ocean, 42, aka ‘A,’ ‘Alex,’ were found guilty in U.S. District Court after a six-day jury trial. The trial revealed that between January 2010 and August 2013, the defendants, along with 10 other accomplices, operated a sophisticated crack distribution network in the Bangor area.

The conspiracy, which was first uncovered in 2015, involved acquiring crack cocaine in New Haven, Connecticut, and transporting it to Bangor, where it was distributed through a network of local dealers and residents. Proceeds from the sales were then transported back to New Haven, where they were used to purchase more crack cocaine, fueling the cycle of addiction and violence.

The investigation, which involved the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, the New Haven Office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the New Haven Police Department, is a testament to the determination of law enforcement to take down the city’s most notorious dealers.

Mitchell and Ocean now face serious consequences for their crimes. Mitchell faces between 10 years and life in prison and a $10,000,000 fine, while Ocean faces up to 20 years in prison and a $1,000,000 fine. They will be sentenced after a presentence investigation report is completed by the U.S. Probation Office.

The conviction marks the final chapter in a long and complex case that has kept Bangor residents on edge for years. The city can now begin to heal from the wounds inflicted by these two notorious dealers.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys Robert Spector and Peter Markle, along with U.S. Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty II, are to be commended for their tireless efforts in bringing these two crack kingpins to justice.
