Omaha Man Sentenced for Possessing a Firearm
Craig Grimes, a 36-year-old man from Omaha, Nebraska, has been sentenced to 4 years and 8 months in prison for possessing a firearm. This conviction stems from a search of Grimes’ residence on March 15, 2012, where a Rossi .357 caliber revolver was found under his bed.
The firearm was discovered during a search of Grimes’ residence, which was authorized by the terms of his supervised release following a previous conviction. Grimes was convicted of conspiracy to distribute marijuana in the Federal District Court of New Mexico on January 21, 2011.
Under federal law, it is a felony for anyone who has been convicted of a felony offense to possess a firearm. Grimes’ previous conviction for conspiracy to distribute marijuana made him subject to this law.
The search of Grimes’ residence was carried out by officers from the Omaha Police Department and the United States Probation office. The revolver found under Grimes’ bed contained his DNA, further linking him to the firearm.
After serving his prison term, Grimes will be required to serve three years on supervised release. This sentence is a result of the careful investigation and prosecution of Grimes’ case by the United States Attorney’s office.
Craig Grimes’ case serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to the terms of supervised release and the severe consequences of violating these terms.
