Diaunte D. Shields, Car Theft Ring Leader, Wisconsin 2023

GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: A veritable army of auto thieves, led by crime ring kingpin Diaunte D. Shields, has been hit with a massive federal indictment in Wisconsin. The gritty operation, spanning five years and tied to over 175 stolen vehicles, has met its match as the Department of Justice unseals charges against 23 suspects.

According to Acting U.S. Attorney Richard G. Frohling for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, the second superseding indictment names a list of alleged co-conspirators, including Geoffrey Harvey, Willie Bullard, and Nakiya Wright, among others, all charged with orchestrating a sophisticated scheme to steal, transport, and sell high-end vehicles across state lines.

The thieves, according to court records, were no strangers to airports like Milwaukee’s General Mitchell International Airport, car dealerships, and even manufacturer assembly plants. They altered VINs, produced fake titles, and used front companies to hide their tracks. The stolen goods? New cars worth millions, all funnelled into money and drugs.

For their roles, the defendants face an array of charges ranging from conspiracy to receive, transport, and sell stolen vehicles to drug trafficking. If convicted, Diaunte Shields, Lashawn Davis, Jr., and Nakiya Wright could face life sentences for their crimes. Casha Griffin and Nakiya Wright also stand accused of money laundering.

Acting U.S. Attorney Frohling hailed the joint efforts of law enforcement as a triumph over years of criminal activity, noting that ‘these individuals are part of a criminal organization responsible for a significant amount of theft in our community.’ FBI Milwaukee Special Agent in Charge Michael Hensle echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the success of the multi-year investigation.

The grim tally of potential sentences is a stark reminder of the stakes involved in such a brazen crime ring. As the justice system takes its course, the names and faces of the alleged car thieves are set to face the music for their actions.
