Greensboro, NC – In a grim testament to the rise of crypto crime, Remy St Felix, 24, from West Palm Beach, Florida, has been convicted for orchestrating a series of violent home invasions aimed at stealing cryptocurrency.
According to court documents and trial evidence, St Felix was the ring leader, targeting cryptocurrency owners across the United States. From September 2022 to July 2023, he and his crew planned and executed robberies in North Carolina, Florida, Texas, and New York, holding victims at gunpoint and forcing them to drain their crypto accounts.
“St Felix and his co-conspirators subjected their victims to a nightmare of fear and violence for the sake of wealth,” said Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Nicole M. Argentieri. “Their actions are a stark reminder that in this digital age, cybercrime can take on a disturbingly violent dimension.”
The jury’s verdict comes after a trial that revealed St Felix’s meticulous planning, including unauthorized access to victims’ email accounts and physical surveillance before the attacks. The stolen funds were laundered through anonymity-enhanced cryptocurrencies and decentralized finance platforms, evading typical Know-Your-Customer checks.
“The FBI is committed to bringing these violent offenders to justice,” said Executive Assistant Director Timothy Langan. “St Felix’s conviction should send a chilling message to those who think they can exploit the cryptocurrency market without facing consequences.”
The victims, according to U.S. Attorney Sandra J. Hairston, endured a traumatic experience at the hands of St Felix and his gang. “Today’s verdict is a significant step toward healing for these individuals,” she said.
