Tony Brown, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, District of Columbia 2025

WASHINGTON – Tony Brown, 34, is headed back to a federal cell after a judge slammed him with a 28-month sentence for being a convicted felon illegally packing a Ruger pistol. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro announced the sentencing today, a small victory in a city drowning in gun violence.

Brown pleaded guilty June 26 before Chief Judge James E. Boasberg to unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition – a charge triggered by his prior convictions. The 28-month stretch won’t be his last time behind bars; Judge Boasberg also tacked on an 18-month supervised release term once he’s done serving time. This isn’t Brown’s first rodeo, and the court clearly wasn’t impressed.

The bust went down May 14, 2025, around 7:45 p.m. in the 5200 block of A Street, SE. Metropolitan Police Department officers, cruising in a marked car, spotted the telltale outline of a pistol tucked under Brown’s shirt. Before they could even fully engage, Brown bolted, triggering a short foot chase. It didn’t end well for him.

Officers quickly apprehended Brown, and during the struggle, a black Ruger Model 57 slipped from his waistband and down his leg. The gun wasn’t empty either – it was loaded with 14 rounds of 5.7×28 caliber ammunition. Initially charged with carrying a firearm without a license, the feds quickly upgraded the charges considering Brown’s history.

And what a history it is. Court records reveal a fifteen-year rap sheet. Brown was previously convicted in 2017 of – you guessed it – being a felon in possession of a firearm, right here in D.C. Then, in 2018, he added assault on a law enforcement officer to his resume in Prince William County, Maryland. Clearly, Brown doesn’t learn from his mistakes, or respect the badge.

The Metropolitan Police Department did the legwork on the case, while Assistant U.S. Attorney John Fucetola and former Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Sumaiya F. Ismail handled the prosecution. Case number 25cr160. While 28 months won’t solve D.C.’s problems, it’s one less illegally armed felon on the streets… for now.
