D.C. Man Sentenced for Illegal Firearms Purchase

Alexandria, Va. – A Washington, D.C. resident has been sentenced to prison for his role in the illegal purchase of two firearms.

Anthony Darnell McCutchen, 27, was sentenced to 12 months in prison for aiding and abetting the false statements of an individual who purchased the firearms on his behalf.

According to court documents, on October 1, 2016, McCutchen met the individual at a Virginia gun show and helped them select the firearms. He also provided the purchaser with the money to buy the guns and directed them on how to behave during the purchase.

Law enforcement observed McCutchen’s activity at the gun show and discovered that he had prior convictions for armed robbery in Washington, D.C. They executed a traffic stop shortly after McCutchen left the gun show and recovered the two firearms from his possession.

McCutchen pleaded guilty to the charges on December 9, 2016. Assistant U.S. Attorney Carina A. Cuellar prosecuted the case, which was announced by U.S. Attorney Dana J. Boente and ATF Special Agent in Charge Michael B. Boxler.

Senior U.S. District Judge T.S. Ellis, III, handed down the sentence in the case, which has been assigned Case No. 1:16-cr-248.

The case highlights the importance of enforcing gun laws and preventing the illegal sale of firearms. McCutchen’s sentence serves as a reminder of the consequences of breaking these laws.
