Convicted Child Predator Sentenced to 12 Years in Prison

In a shocking case of online predation, 32-year-old Fairbanks resident Dahkota Mitchell has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for attempting to produce child pornography and entice a minor.

Mitchell was arrested on Nov. 28, 2023, at an Anchorage hotel after making plans to meet with an undercover law enforcement official posing as a 12-year-old girl. The defendant had been communicating with the official since July 7, 2023, and had requested explicit content and planned in-person meetings.

According to court documents, Mitchell had planned to meet the undercover official and an 11-year-old friend for a sexual encounter, but the meeting never occurred. Mitchell pleaded guilty to attempted coercion and enticement of a minor on Oct. 25, 2024.

U.S. Attorney S. Lane Tucker for the District of Alaska condemned Mitchell’s actions, stating, ‘Child predators target Alaska’s most vulnerable, leaving lasting harm in their wake.’

The FBI Anchorage Field Office and Anchorage Police Department investigated the case as part of the FBI’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force. Assistant U.S. Attorney Carly Vosacek prosecuted the case.

Mitchell will serve 25 years on supervised release following his prison sentence. The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.

This sentence serves as a warning to those who would seek to harm Alaska’s most vulnerable citizens. The public remains vigilant and committed to protecting our children from online predators.
