A former local high school teacher and theme park employee has been found guilty of attempting to meet a minor for sex in Florida.
Dennis Lee Line, 51, of Winter Springs, was convicted of one count of attempting to coerce or entice a minor to engage in sexual activity.
According to evidence presented during trial, Line met a 15-year-old girl on a dating application on February 9, 2022. He initiated a discussion about sex and meeting later that night, but unbeknownst to him, the 15-year-old girl was actually an undercover law enforcement officer.
Line was arrested when he arrived at the meeting location in Orange County.
The case was investigated by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, the Orlando Police Department, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Shawn P. Napier.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Line faces a minimum mandatory penalty of 10 years, up to life, in federal prison. A sentencing date is scheduled for November 2, 2022.
